Khizzy has her own way of cheering me up i must say.
How many friends do you have who just ask for your passport and the next thing you know you know you have one week of your life all planned out for you in another country?
so all you indian bloggers out there or anyone who has been to india- readers, non readers, regulars, non regulars, comment-type and non comment-type, silent and outspoken, let the suggestions of what we should do or could do or even what we should NOT do pour in.
We'll have 5 days and nights in Mumbai and 2 days and nights in Delhi.
cheers!

OMG India is soo much fun with friends, just catch up on lots of rest and have idlis and sambhar, my favoriteeee!
India is probably my favorite place to visit.. certainly one of the most beautiful places on earth but sadly Delhi and Mumbai are not the prime examples of that.
Having said that Bisma has pretty much covered Mumbai. Delhi isnt as vibrant as Mumbai but infinitely more beautiful (according to me) But the real essence of Delhi can only be felt when you spend a month or so there (kinda like Khi). I would stick to all kinds of historic sites when it comes to Delhi, of which there are plenty, but you'd hardly get to visit a few in 2 days.
oh and best of luck. Have a great time. and get those memory cards ready! (you'll need plenty :) )
Oh I can't wait until you come back and update your blog with pictures...I daresay the Indian collection will be some of your finest..
Enjoy!
bisma: woah ho! thanks for ALL that- i will definitley stuff all that in 5 days- i intend to totally pack up the schedule ( amongst everything khizzy has already planned for us). not sure about the roadside food thought, ashmed to admit i have a very sensitive stomach and do NOT want to spend 5 days throwing up :S
but yeah keep the suggestiong of bazars and festivals coming- really wanna do some photography of interesting stuff there!
Nomad: i know the time is short but we couldnt get a visa for a longer time- security issues ( dont think they trusted me and khiz anyway :P) but yeah im still psyched.
maya + sekmet: blog will defnintley have a day-to-day- update once i return :P
I'll keep it simple.
Go, see, click.
Have fun. :-)
kAy as a photographer you'll be in heaven when you see Janter Manter in Delhi.
Its a treat!!!
When do you plan to be there? For all you know we might land at the airport at the same time :)
For Mumbai - Walk down Colaba Causeway. If you have read Shantaram, then visit Leopolds. Check out the old Taj by the Gateway. Eat kebabs at bade miyans (oh wait, U get better ones in Pak, I forget!!). Catch a movie at Regal.
Head to bandstand (if you are a SRK fan, his place is right there). Walk along Carter Road and take a stroll on Juhu Beach (if you are a AB, AB Jr., Madhuri or Dev Anand fan, their house is right there). If you are at Juhu beach, eat at Shiv Sagar (bang opposite Ramada), one of the spots for tasting Mumbais Pav-Bhaji. If you feel adventurous, have a 'Bisleri' gola at Juhu. More adventurous? Have a regular water gola at Juhu :P
Head to Haji Ali, the walk on the narrow pathway all the way into the ocean is amazing. Check out the temple at Prabha Devi. Walk along Marine Drive and visit Shivaji park for checking out the future Tendulkars.
Eat a frankie at Qualitys or Tibbs or Move 'n' Pick.
I wont get into the nightlife details. U'll find plenty to do (but explore downtown by the night). If you see this really hot guy pass by, wave out (its me!) :P
Just holla if u need more info.
PS: No, I do not work as a tour guide, but I'll accept tips. Cash only please.
I agree with Khiz.
Coming from a shutterbug you will have fingers busy at all times lol.
Since you only have two days in Delhi I suggest the following. First day do the Jama Masjid+Red Fort+Chandni chowk - they are all side by side. That would consume half a day surely (photgrapher's paradise I tell u). Then move to Connaught Place (only 30 mins) and go around it.. could easily take 3 or 4 hrs again. Bear in mind that CP is totally closed on Sundays. On the outskirts of CP itself (100 mts) is Jantar Mantar. The radial roads out of CP are quite interesting too like Janpath - great place to walk around. By this time it would be evening/night and you can go to India Gate (again about 15 mins away) Arc de Triomphe le Paris looks a lot like India Gate but matches nowhere in ambience and the beauty of the India Gate at night. The atmosphere is brilliant. (again avoid Sundays :) )
Next day you could visit any other sites slightly further from the centre that you might have set your minds on. I suggest 2.
1) the Akshardham temple - brilliant piece of work
2) the Qutab Minar - very lovely and serene.
Bon Voyage!
P.S. last thing and this one's for Khizzy. No need to give yourself any funny names this time around :P (yes i've read some of ur India blog) Your names are pretty cool as they are :)
@nameless nomad:
kAy's and my name are bound to be toungue twisters.they are different names even here in Pakistan.
indians cannot(because it isnt in the hindi alphanet(?) pronounce the 'KH' sound, as our names require.lol.
ive been to india twice before and love it everytime!this trip will be fun because ill be going with kAy.travelling with friends is a blast.
i love janter manter in delhi, and CP was where we stayed.it was conveniently a short walk away from janpath market where as a college student i went insane shopping.
@apoo.last time i went i stayed at Taj(landsend) which is right nest to SRK's place.sadly he was out of town, other wise i had complete plans of camping at his gate.lol.
Colaba is a favorite so kAy will definitly see that.
:)
great tips people.lol.will have to print all this out.
@khizzy: Ah I see.. And I thought u changed names for some other reason. Actually I've heard people pronounce 'KH' no problem at least in Delhi. 'z' on the other hands many pronounce as 'j' lol But my friends (who speak a mixture of hindi, urdu and english just like in most cities in India) have perfect pronunciations for all these names.. I guess regional dialects come in somewhere. ok this is getting boring.. hehe
Actually it is probably a good thing u r going only for 2 days. It is roasting out there at this time!! lol yahi time mila tha ? :P Inshallah u'll have a blast!
sorry.. other hand*
(thats it. no more comments I promise! :P:P )
khizzy- you are one fast replier to comments :P
Apoo- i think you have atleast one of the five days we are there ready for us with all that you mentioned.
khiz and i get there on the 12th afternoon inshallah and leave for delhi i think around the 14th come back to mumbai on the 16th and then back to khi on the 19th.
phew.
yes thats khizzys planning for you:P
so if we see a hot guy at mumbai airport should we wave to him too asuming its you?
Nomad-now those are tips!
btw ive always wanted to do that fake name thing in a different country- but yeah my name is pretty odd as it is.
Oh boy, we sure are gonna be there at the same time! In fact, I have a friend visiting from the UAE and I have to take her around on a tour the city kinda thing for a week. So for all you know, I might be following you (ok, kidding, dont change your plans of coming down) :)
Yes yes, wave out. It never hurts waving out to hot guys. I know I'll wave if I see two girls, one carrying a camera and the other hyper-excited running all over (dont know why but thats the mental picture I have of Khizzy)
Apoo- lol@mental image of khizzy. that is hitting the truth so close youre freaking me out with this telepathy thing you have going on.
okay ill wave out-if its not you and if some creepy stalker there on starts to hound me ill hold you responsible!
Lucky! Half my family is Indian national and I still havent been able to take time out to visit India yet.
Have fun. :)
Is there an email address I can send mail to? Mine is hydedward@gmail.com
Have fun !
and be safe !
naqsh- its all about the roots! make that trip soon.
hyde- lifemeansdrama@gmail.com
saady- cheers.
You're going to be in Bombay when I'm not! Sigh.
Places have pretty much been covered. Leopolds. Mint-tea there. Mondy's, the tees. Buy Tantra tees and other junk at Colaba. Linking, Hill Road, other street shopping destinations, though, I hear of certain places being cleared up. I'll e-mail you with more stuff as and when I can think of it.
Have a fantastic time. Send me your numbers in India, I'll call you.
Oh, Totos, Shack and other cool Bandra pubs / clubs. :D
damn damn divs. i was hoping to finally meet you! you in cheenai now again are you?
fake a business trip and come to mumbai or delhi!!
will definitley call you. email me your number.
oh i just missed you by a week...in mumbai DEFINITELY try Bade Miya...Pakistani or not...its in the narrow lane behind the Taj in colaba, the reshmi kabab roll to be precise..it "wakes" up close to sun set. Invest in a first class local train pass as the traffic and the weather is horrendous and you will save on time.
do the haji ali, mount mary, shiddivinayak "spiritual"route...not a tuesday please as the queues are baaaad.
Definitely go to the Bombay Store...its in the Kalagodha /Colaba area, a block away from the churchgate station.
Good quality stuff.
Go to the Phoenix Mills Mall (closest station Lower Parel) for serious shopping..
to treat the shutter bug in you...be at churchgate around noon when all the dabba wallahs come in ...a station away is the dhobi ghat...awesome.
DONT FORGET TO INVEST IN THE TRAIN PASS...seriously, you will majorly save on time...at some times of the day you can "survive" in the ladies second class compartment as well...
aww that was really thoughtful of her- trips with friends are bound to be better than your regular trips, be it anywhere :)
have fun!
amna

near leopold's on colaba is this little bakery called theobroma-
we went there a bazillion times and tried bringing their brownies home to lahore.
obviously go to bade miyan, and see if you can sneak in churchill's, also on colaba, it has the best seafood lasagna.
enjoy mumbai!
When are you people coming over, or am I asking this too late. I bumped across your blog through "ramblingmutterings" (a good friend of mine) and I find your work extremely intriguing and creative.
Anyway.. if its not too late, then you could join us on a photowalk somewhere in Delhi :) I'm a part of this group - http://www.photowalking.info. We usually plan our walks on the weekends
aneela- thanks for that! will def keep train pass in mind!

I'm not sure about the Mumbai people, there is a photowalking mailing list for Mumbai but it doesn't seem to be too active, don't know anyone there personally.
