Okay- firstly, i loved egypt. minus the pollution caused by insane traffic- the place is awesome- yes it has it's issues, which country doesn't?
so the first day i spent mostly at the museum and walking along the Nile.
More than the museum, i enjoyed the courtyard outside the museum where there were hundreds of tourists walking around, taking a break or taking pictures. since mine was a solo expedition, i took ample time in just watching them, observing the variety of cultures before me...how they enjoyed themselves, how the sat, they talked, they observed other people. it was fascinating seeing so many different races together in one place- hearing several different language spoken all at one in this excited chatter.
all in all- it was an ideal start to a trip that turned out to be very memorable.

U should come to NYC
u get that all the time....
and after a point....it makes u wanna vomit!
haha. i think it's the perpetual smell of sewage that makes u wanna vomit. i've noticed, ohio smells of chemicals. ottawa smells of vomit and fertilizers. toronto smells of sewage too. okay...i'm totally off topic.
kay...what does wahid refer to? the people in the picture?
did i mention, i already love this series?
you guys are already putting me off NYC ( if that is ever possible :P)
wahid means "number one" in arabic...as this is the first cairo post :)
in the last shot- was the woman yawning or practicing Opera?
also- see if you can talk about the music aspect of egypt, if you were exposed to it- music for me is a true definition of a country.
oh and "did i mention, i already love this series?" too! :D
Insiya: I bet she is hollering for the guards...oyee, this trigger happy Pakistani paparazzi is just not letting us be!!
Welcome back Kay!! and hope the sinus is history.

Ummmm....if i might add, Wash DC smells of rainbows and lollipops..okay, not really but you get my point?
It does smell cleaner than NYC, like a sanitary smaller sibling...and i've also heard from reliable sources that cairo smells like karachi.
ok seriously i dont know what part you guys are talking about but NYC doesnt smell that bad.
times square, in the summer.
i can't believe this conversation...from the sounds of egptian opera ladies (i think thats what they're doin)..to smells! lol.
i do wonder, what does Celebration, Florida (Disney owned perfect city for white middle class families) smell like?
Lahore smells like cat poop...and a stinky naala that runs in the middle of the city...
Sorry, just wanted to throw it out there. Just met up with a Lahori and we were arguing over which city is better. I won, of course.
PS: Karachi smells like fish.
You must take a Nile cruise... or better yet a faluka rise...
Its awesome...
mail me at paradox.philic@gmail.com if you need any help in Cairo. I stay here (have been here since last 10 months).. can try helping with my limited knowledge of the city :)
karachi does NOt smell of fish!
okay atleast where i live..it mainly smells of the sea....but not fishy sea ...just sea-y sea.
i cant remember what lahore smells like-
its times like these im happy to have a stuffed up sinus ridden nose! i cant smell much!
paradox: thank you for the offers, i have already left egypt and am back in karachi now!!
It does too. Try telling those that live on Sunset Boulevard that it doesn't and they might invite you over for some tea in the balcony. Then you can take in all the sea-y smell that you want ;).
PS: I <3 KHI.
