The rise of a new dawn

All of us have one thing in common,
we want peace.
We just have different ways of saying the same thing.
One way i found beautiful and extremely moving was this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjaNQFChkCY

Some very talented people from LUMS really gave Faiz's words wings.

pray for better times people and enjoy the video. We have ALL thought about doing this in our heads...i would love for this kind of unity to become a real thing soon.

And then there are those who would give up the good times in their lives to make sure that others can lead a better life.

We need more of those people because those are the ones who can really bring about a change. People like us, we pray for change but fail to do anything about it...

i watched this video with a man - when it finished, he turned around with tears in his eyes - i showed him my goose flesh! and how we discussed that it's not about the cliched thought, idea - it's about the bigger picture and how a strong nudge every once in a while is a need to be able to collect and pick yourself up.

i want a special screening of this video in the national assembly :)

This is sweet. I remember a time I spent 2 weeks at a hospital looking after someone and everyday I used to watch ambulances stuck in traffic, trying to get to the ER. It used to make my blood boil. Once I confronted a lunatic who thought it was ok to park ones car in front of the hospital entrance.

This video sure struck a chord. And its a nice song as well!

this post does justice to the times in my head right now. not to start a blog comment debate with yawar right now (and yes i have noticed it being an oft occurrence!), everyone has a different job- some have to do the hard bits yes, because they know how to do it better- some have to go about living their life as normally as they can in times of uncertainty just to show that that, too can and should be done, and yet others are needed for the prayers and faith part of it. Maybe if we stopped pointing fingers all the time, and did our bit- whatever it is to our best ability- we can talk about change as it really should be. Our apathy springs from not understanding that not everyone is meant to be leaders- that sometimes, more impt that good leaders, are good followers. That too is an impt role- anyhow- heres to better times. inshallah.

you know its scary how the sentence "the need to understand how everyone is not meant to be a leader" was the exact response i was going to give yawar.
yawar i know you are upset by the situation... as we ALL are, but really, and i mean this in a very non offensive way, if you feel you have the power to actually do something beyond praying and beyond complaining and discussing then do it. maybe if i see you do something cool i can be inspired to follow your example. but if i choose to sit back and pray right now, its probably not such a bad idea on my part either...we can never have enough prayers.

apoo: i'm glad you liked the song...i really hope it inspires the people of not just my nation but yours too, to not lose hope.
we cannot afford that right now.

I'm not really going to disagree with either of you. Both of you made complete sense in what you wrote. Yes, I was bitter and frankly, I let my emotions get the better of me.

Yawar even posting a blog like this requires an effort stamina and some energy. Those of us unable to inspire others by actions can still take some consolation by going through kay's life:)
However, with all due respect to her efforts, the song itself is quite awful..na moun na matha aur awaz bhi kafi buri hai:/ isiliye main inspire nahi hosaka..
but hats off to kay's noble intentions..:D

acha waisay to be perfectly honest, i am not a great fan of the vocals myself...but i guess i totally overlooked that and concentrated on the meaning...

I loved what Valkyrie had to say. It was pretty funny but I actually liked the song. Not that I got inspired or anything but a friend of mine did something similar on Allama Iqbal's Vaseeat and I still have his song on my playlist. So I like it when bands do poetry and make it into song. And I did like the video as well. As APOO said, seeing ambulances not being given the right-of-way pisses me off as well.

And I do appreciate what Kay is doing. Yes, she does have noble intentions. Yay for Kay.

PS: I loved the movie 'Valkyrie'. But the word is a nordic term having something to do with martyrs and chosen ones. Deep, eh?

Valkyrie said...

Yawar it indeed is a Nordic expression used by Scandinavians during Viking era. Their ancient literature suggested that valkyries were those brave souls choosing to die in the battle against evil to join the galaxy of martyrs.
And I consider myself an ancient spirit, a crusade from knight’s templar with a mythical touch fighting against pure evil.
And kay is no ordinary soul either, she is an illuminati, an enlightened spirit who someday will be source of inspiration for us all only if she stops supporting Fatima Bhutto :D

i am not sure if my intellectual capabilities could one day extend as far as being the 'shadowy power behind the throne' but thank you for the faith valkyrie ;)

as for fatima bhutto,
in my defence, there is a distinct lack of good potential candidates in politics in the future, and if she doesnt turn evil in the next several years and there is no other option, she gets my vote...
however, since i'm not sure how i would feel having Clooney become a prominent figure in Pakistan's political decision making- my support for Ms.Bhutto is wavering.

Point noted but let me tell you in fact remind you of something very interesting.
Your grandfather once fought the government authorities for the burial of Maulvi Abdul Huq simply because Maulvi saab wanted a burial in those premises where he had worked all his life (I forgot that organization’s name..some anjuman). It was a truly brave act considering West Pakistan was governed by tyrant named Amir Mohammad Khan who had a pathological hatred against all intellectuals.
So I suppose I can have some faith in you:) and perhaps agree to Yawar’s intial assessment of some people capable of doing a lot more than others simply because of sheer weight of history behind them:) btw I am a huge fan of his travelogues.
As for Fatima, she had lost it completely when she came out unleashing her venom against BB, very immature of someone intending to rule this country at some point.
George Clooney is a trivial matter;)

the organization would be "anjuman taraqqi-e-Urdu"- my grandfather is one of the founders of that establishment. interesting to virtually meet a fan of his who isnt a fan simply because of his dohas or his national songs. i do believe you are the first to ever even mention his travelogues to me.:)
but if you loved what he has written, you'd love more the stuff he did NOT write down. the incidents and the untold stories noone would believe which i have had the pleasure of hearing- which perhaps someday i will write about.

coming to fatima, i'm not that huge a fan to defend her every move and i'll give you that it was an immature one which you pointed out, but look at where she is coming from...spewing venom isnt the worst thing an infant politician can do. i would rather pick her over the other bhutto potential candidate anyday.
clooney could be our next president btw. who knows how many people our current president has inspired!

:)

I can well imagine someone as versatile as your grandfather sitting with the likes of Faiz, Ibn-e-insha, Manto Ashfaq Ahmed, Qudrat ula shahab..he must have some great memories of those golden years so do take out some time and mention what we did not have the privilege of knowing:)
As for your surprise, a worldwide traveller with immense knowledge and a fine poetic brain, who would possibly come up with a better travelogue:). I would be surprised if he hasn’t been acknowledged for his memoirs. Btw I like Jeevay jeevay..hehe. Convey to him my sincerest regards whenever you can

I agree with your assessment on her however to me she remains an aristocratic figure someone who will never be able to understand Pakistani janta or maybe in next 10-15 years she might. Just another Bhutto!!! . Although I don’t mind the Clooney part, at least I will cherish my luck over the prospects of Hollywood hotties visiting Pakistan. Shayed koi chaltay phirtay mil bhi jaye..:D
